Project duration: 2026-06-01 to 2028-12-31
Contact person: Hanna Bjärkvik, Mimbly AB
Purpose and objectives
The project aims to develop and demonstrate a scalable retrofit-based solution for circular water use in large-scale commercial laundry. Through further development of Mimbly’s technology for water recycling and microplastic filtration, the solution is integrated into larger professional laundry systems. Demonstration is taking place at Samhall in collaboration with Electrolux Professional. The goal is to reduce water use by 20-50% per installed system and maintain about 90% microplastic reduction.
Expected impacts and results
The project contributes to the Sustainable Water for All 2050 mission by reducing water withdrawal, increasing water reuse and reducing the spread of microplastics. The results include a verified solution for larger washing systems, documented environmental impact and an implementation and business model for broad use. Electrolux Professional’s international presence enables national and international dissemination.
Planned approach and implementation
The project contributes to the ‘Sustainable Water for All by 2050’ mission by reducing water abstraction, enabling circular water use and limiting the spread of microplastics from commercial laundry.
The results include:
- A verified retrofit solution for circular water use in large professional laundry systems
- Documented environmental impact through monitoring of water savings and microplastic reduction in real operating environment
- A scalable installation and business model for implementation in existing machinery
- Knowledge base to inform future guidelines, standards and procurement requirements in the sector
The project is based on collaboration between technology supplier (Mimbly), industry partner (Electrolux Professional) and need owner (Samhall).
