Project duration: 2026-06-01 to 2029-31-05

Contact person: Björn Schouenborg, RISE

Purpose and objectives

The project aims to develop and verify scalable blue-grey-green (BGG) street designs that make cities more climate and flood resilient. The goal is to develop standardized, technically verified solutions that handle torrential and everyday rain, relieve water systems and reduce the impact on aquatic environments. The project will deliver decision support, governance and financing models, procurement support, and operational and design documentation that will enable municipalities to introduce BGG systems as part of their regular planning and management.

Expected impacts and results

The project results reduce flood risks through increased infiltration, detention and diversion in the street space, thus contributing directly to the Sustainable Water for All 2050 mission. The work results in new standards, AMA documents, digital models and design tools, including integration into StormTac Web. The results support circular and resilient water management, improved water quality, more robust infrastructure and lower life cycle costs. It is expected that at least four municipalities will be able to make implementation decisions during the project period.

Planned approach and implementation

The work is implemented in five integrated work packages. AP1 is responsible for project management, The project is implemented in five collaborative work packages. AP1 is responsible for management and coordination. AP2 develops governance, financing and procurement models and decision support for implementation in municipalities. WP3 develops and tests designs, materials and execution methods through lab and field studies in several pilot municipalities. AP4 develops hydraulic calculation models, design criteria and digital tools. AP5 is responsible for communication, training and packaging of results for broad implementation nationally.
