Important results from the project
The number of actionable initiatives to reduce nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions has been accelerated. A website has been published about N2O formation, measurement technology, emission-reducing measures, and digital analysis tools, and where reading tips and contact persons for various stakeholders can be found. Furthermore, the project partners have continued their collaboration to develop new, cheaper measurement technology. The first steps have been taken to specify data-driven methods to reduce N2O emissions.
Expected long-term effects
The project partners will continue to collaborate, and involve more stakeholders, in trying to halve the currently estimated emissions of nitrous oxide from Swedish water treatment. Within the next five years, the number of installed measuring equipment will accelerate and knowledge about emission reduction measures will increase accordingly. In the long term, design parameters for treatment plants will also be changed to reduce nitrous oxide emissions.
Approach and implementation
The collaboration between the various project parties worked well. The division into work packages (WP) with WP-specific meetings and cross-project meetings worked well. The goal of a website worked well to generate good results in the project. Both IRL and digital meetings were carried out within the project.
