About the project
Water management in crisis and war (ViKK) aims to strengthen Sweden’s ability to secure water supply during prolonged and extensive crises. Experiences from, among other things, the war in Ukraine show how vulnerable society becomes when water resources are threatened or interrupted, and how crucial alternative systems, backup solutions and increased preparedness are.
ViKK builds on a WWS pre-project that was used to start mobilizing relevant actors for the Transition Lab. The need owner in ViKK is the Swedish Food Agency/VAKA, which is the national water disaster group that will provide support in an acute crisis in the drinking water supply.
ViKK contributes to a combination of, among other things, technological innovations, alternative strategies, new forms of collaboration, etc. The circle of partners will work together as far as possible and then alternate concrete efforts across organizational boundaries. The focus will be on continuously creating several smaller movements in order to achieve a transition as a whole.
Furthermore, stress tests will be carried out. Through the stress test, we will simulate complex crisis scenarios where several events occur simultaneously and put pressure on the water supply system. By staging these situations, both technical systems and the interaction between the actors are tested and hidden weaknesses can be identified.
ViKK will strengthen Sweden’s ability to provide safe water management that works both in everyday life and in a crisis.
