The work has provided a strong foundation for future project applications and ongoing cooperation to improve chemical risk assessment and management in water systems.<\/p>\n<h2>Expected long-term effects<\/h2>\n<p>To achieve effective assessment and management of chemical risks in water, the project proposes establishing a long-term national support function to coordinate stakeholders, strengthen water quality monitoring, develop advanced data and analysis tools, harmonize risk assessment methods, and promote knowledge transfer to policy. This will ensure safe drinking water, enable safe wastewater reuse, and protect water sources &#8211; benefiting both people and the environment.<\/p>\n<h2>Approach and implementation<\/h2>\n<p>The work in this project (Nov 2024\u2013May 2025) centered around four workshops aimed at mapping the current state and future needs for assessment and management of risks with unwanted chemicals in water. Experts and stakeholders identified key knowledge gaps, barriers, and proposed next steps for improved assessment and management.
