Purpose and objectives<\/h2>\n

Our long-term vision is to establish a new practice for assessing and managing chemical risks in water to better protect the environment and human health. This feasibility study aims to initiate a cross-sectoral dialogue to map the current state of play and needs for development in chemical risk assessment in natural and engineered water systems. We approach the issue from three perspectives: analytical techniques, risk assessment and regulations. <\/p>\n

Expected impacts and results<\/h2>\n

We will identify gaps, summarize good practices and propose a way forward to implement these new practices. The project will improve access to safe drinking water, contribute to the health of lakes and rivers, and lay the foundation for consistent regulations for wastewater reuse. This project will also promote quality-based water reuse, minimizing chemical risks to human health and ensuring wise use of water resources. <\/p>\n

Planned approach and implementation<\/h2>\n

The project focuses on workshops with experts, policy makers and practitioners. It will start with a digital briefing, followed by three workshops on analytical techniques, risk assessment and water quality regulations. A final workshop will synthesize the project results, which will later be presented in a digital meeting to all interested parties. The outcome will be a proposal for a larger research project on the assessment and management of chemical risks in water. <\/p>\n
