Important results from the project

The goals of the project were achieved. The research and innovation fronts in molecular water quality were compiled from an international as well as a national perspective. The project has broadly described future scenarios for the year 2050 and necessary system shifts to enable the development towards modern quality control. During the project period, the network of actors has been expanded and proposals for follow-up projects have been developed to contribute to the goals of Water Wise Societies.

Expected long-term effects

The project has established a stable foundation for continued efforts towards transitioning from analog and slow to digital and rapid determination of microbial water quality. This serves as the basis for better utilizing available water and (re)using the right water for the right purpose. We are prepared for a transformative journey that is in demand across various industries that use water in different ways and wish to do so in a safer and more efficient manner.

Approach and implementation

The project has brought together a wide group of stakeholders from academia, society and industry with significant knowledge of water quality. The work has been carried out through a series of workshops to explore the area together by defining the desired future situation, the need for change and efforts to achieve change with subsequent analysis of the results. The activities have been well adapted to the needs and purpose, have followed the schedule and the collaborations have worked well.
