Purpose and objectives

Explore the transformation of industrial water use to contribute to sustainable water in 2050. Industries, in collaboration with other societal stakeholders, will reduce environmental impacts, secure water availability, improve process performance and reduce costs. Objectives: – Engage more key stakeholders – Define future scenarios for water use – Develop priority shifts – Identify next steps in WWS.

Expected impacts and results

We explore how industrial water use can contribute to the WWS mission of Sustainable Water for All by 2050. The project contributes to global competitiveness by supporting Swedish industry to increase resource efficiency, sustainable transition and increased resilience. As a direct result of the project, the challenge of industry’s sustainable water use will be described, key players identified and future scenarios, prioritized system shifts and proposals for actions in the next step of WWS will be developed.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is led by RISE with active partners in all 5 work packages: WP1: Mapping key actors and international initiatives. WP2: Using foresight methodology to explore future scenarios, focusing on industry and municipal conditions. WP3: Analyze system changes to improve industrial water use in interaction with municipal water. WP4: Define actions for next steps. AP5: Coordinate activities, report to funder, participate in dialogues and disseminate insights.
