Purpose and objectives

Restoring aquatic environments and wetlands can lead to significant positive environmental effects and many efforts are being made to restore them. To make the best use of available resources and increase the possibility of implementing measures, a well thought-out set of communication methods is needed. These methods can facilitate dialog with stakeholders and communication about the benefits and need for action for the individual landowner, nature and society at large. The project will develop a toolbox of such methods and disseminate it to actors working with water management measures, which will facilitate more measures and increase awareness of the importance of aquatic environments for ecosystems and society.

Expected impacts and results

The toolbox is intended to be used by actors who want to implement measures in aquatic environments such as municipalities, county administrative boards or landowners and thus get help to plan dialog and nature guidance before, during and after a measure of the aquatic environment. The toolbox will help to choose methods based on the current situation that can increase understanding, commitment and acceptance of the planned action among different stakeholders. This can involve both how to plan a dialog process and how to plan nature guidance (such as guiding, signs and audio guides). Nature guidance can both facilitate the dialogue process and help visitors and other stakeholders understand the need for the measure and the importance of the aquatic environment for water availability, climate and biodiversity.

At the end of the project, a digital toolkit will be available digitally at no cost. It will be disseminated through networks and channels to reach many stakeholders in Sweden. Through the contacts of the four project partners, it is likely that almost all relevant stakeholders will be reached.

Planned approach and implementation

The LSTK, MVVF and NVVF are each testing the methods in their own cases with support from each other. The CNV is leading the development of the toolkit with the support of the practical experience and knowledge of the actors. During the project, learning takes place between the four actors through meetings and with the help of a reference group.
