About the project
The “Water in balance” project addresses the need for a resilient and sustainable water supply in light of climate changes that affect both water availability and quality. By developing the “water budget” concept—a model for balancing the supply and withdrawal of water while considering both human and ecological needs—conditions are created for fair and sustainable water distribution.
The project establishes a thematic transition lab focusing on information management concerning water resources, initially in Skåne and the Gothenburg region. The goal is to collect, structure, and make data on water resources available, while also protecting sensitive information. Through the coordination of calculation models and transparency in methods, a robust foundation is created for decision-making and planning of water issues.
By the end of the project, there shall be a clear allocation of responsibility for data and information management, as well as a plan for addressing knowledge gaps. The project involves stakeholders from regional authorities, municipalities, research institutes, and national organizations, and lays the foundation for further studies and policy development for sustainable water management—both under normal conditions and during a crisis.
