Important results from the project
The project shows that industry needs secure and predictable access to water and wastewater services, currently threatened by a strained utility system and unclear responsibilities. At the same time, water efficiency is a strategic necessity to meet future demands. The project goal, to clarify industry’s role in sustainable water 2050 within Water Wise Societies, was achieved, and the system analysis highlights the need for support, collaboration and reform to strengthen the industry’s transition.
Expected long-term effects
The project has initiated a dialogue expected to contribute to a long-term system transition where industrial water use becomes more efficient, resilient, and integrated into societal planning. Increased insight, new forms of collaboration, and concrete proposals for policy and development measures create conditions for future investments, innovation, and sustainable growth—both within industry and through cooperation.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out through workshops, meetings, and foresight and system analysis methods. The group of actors varied over time, which enriched the process. The timeline was extended to accommodate mandatory Water Wise Societies activities and to leverage interaction with other projects in shaping the proposal for a future transition lab.
