Purpose and objectives

The project aims to ensure that future decentralized water and wastewater systems contribute to environmental and health protection, resource efficiency, recycling and community preparedness. The aim of the project is to map the current situation from a system perspective and create a platform for stakeholders. A common future vision and action plan for decentralized systems will be developed through trend and scenario analyses, as well as discussions on the future desired situation.

Expected impacts and results

The project is expected to contribute to: * Reduced nutrient leakage and contamination of lakes and rivers, and control systems to ensure this. * Sustainable water use, including access to safe drinking water, development of water-saving technologies and safe/environmentally friendly wastewater solutions. * Increased nutrient recycling from wastewater fractions. * Risk sharing – Decentralized systems complementing centralized systems means reduced vulnerability.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will start with an external monitoring and description of the current situation from a system perspective through interviews and literature study. Then three workshops are conducted with the following themes: 1) Overall trend analysis – digital meeting. 2) Scenario analysis (identify possible future scenarios based on the current situation) – physical meeting. 3) Desired future situation – digital meeting. The results of the project are compiled in a simpler report at the end of the project period.
